RESTAURANT TRIPPINGS AROUND WARSAW

It's hard when you eat in a restaurant and the menu is not translated in English. And most especially, if you don't have the bucks to pay for your bill, that's another headache. That's why we went to Champion's Sports Bar in Marriot Hotel and TGI Friday's last June 14 and 15.

Champion's Sports Bar and Restaurant - A good suggestion for sports buff and for those who craves for big servings. We went here after we bought a train ticket at Warszava Centralna Station. As usual, I didn't order beer unlike my company, Jonjon, Darius and Pope.

TGI Friday's - Almost every Friday, Filipinos in Warsaw meet in TGIF. Nice, right? The better news is that we can order any beverage/liquor! Since I don't take alcohol, I indulged myself in three cups of mocha frappucino! Yummy! They don't have a Starbucks here so they satisfied my craving. We went to Arkadia once again to meet another Filipino guy and for them to drink beer again. The good thing is that they have this crispy pata -- the Polish version so at least I have something to do. Click here.

HP Sandwich - In HP Poland, an HP sandwich is available for employees. A free sandwich for breakfast (even for lunch and dinner) sounds terrific. :D Most of the time, a sandwich has ham, lettuce, mushroom, cucumber, sandwich spread, poppy seeds etc.

Cooking 101 - One night, I was industrious enough so I cooked for myself: Grilled Chicken with gravy, mushroom soup and steamy rice. Together with a glass of apple juice, it's like a typical Pinoy fiesta. I miss the banderitas! Weird thing, I had my dinner at around 7PM and the sun was still up.

Sphinx Resturacja - It is like Poland's McDo's fine dine version. You can find one branch at almost any block. The service is not that good since they have limited English-speaking waiters. Steaks here are quite cheap -- I paid around 500 pesos for it. :)

Arkadia - some say that this is the biggest mall in Poland and even in the whole Central Europe. Click here.

We had a chance to visit the Old Town since today is a national holiday due to Corpus Christi. The Old Town by the way is by far the most attractive area of Warsaw. It stretches between Wybrzeze Gdanskie Street, Grodzka, Mostowa and Powale Street.

The heart of Warsaw often resembles a quaint provincial town, which is fitting as for around three hundred years that is exactly what it was - a fortified town of modest stature. Warsaw was founded by the Dukes of this region of Poland, Mazovia, in the late 12th century. Their castle, which was transformed into the royal seat in 1569, was the most important edifice and it remains the focus of the area to this day.

The Old Town was utterly destroyed, like the rest of Warsaw, in the closing phases of the Second World War. Some of the hardest-fought battles of the Uprising took place here. Afterwards it was reconstructed with the utmost care. The Royal Castle, which stands over Plac Zamkowy, was the last great landmark to be restored, its rebuilding commencing as late as 1971.

DAY 1: FIRST DAY OF WORK

After getting a short nap, we went to HP Office to meet the folks there. After work, we bought a pass which entitles us to an unlimited use of trains and buses for a month for 66 Zloty (around 1300 pesos). Not bad.

We also went around Warsaw but promised to come back for some picture taking. Nice city! However, they really speak Polish and hardly speak in English even their products in the grocery! The sun rises at around 4AM at sets at around 9PM. A long day indeed.

Anyway, I'm enjoying our stay here. It rained yesterday that's why our photo shoot was postponed. :) Click here.

I've been to Ninoy Aquino International Airport before when we make hatid of my father. But this is a different case, ako na ang aalis! Nasa NAIA ako 3 hours before the flight at muntik na kaming di makasakay ng airplane.

Our departure time is 10:45AM but we are still in the Immigration queue at 10:41. So after the machine scanned my belt bag and footwear, we rushed like Amazing Racers to the plane. What a way to start my trip. Exhausting. Click here.

So it's my airplane debut. I was fortunate enough to sat near the window. For a first-timer, that was really the best seat in town.

Our route is Manila, Philippines -> Amsterdam, Netherlands -> Warsaw, Poland. To sum it up, it was an 18 hour-travel and the sun did not set for the first 17 hours. That was the longest day of my life!

Some highlights:

The personal multimedia system is awesome! I can do the following: watch TV episodes like Extreme Makeover, Friends, Two and a Half Men, X-Files and more; listen to a wide range of music; watch movies like Pan's Labyrinth, The Departed, Babel, Blood Diamond, Letters from Iwo Jima and other recent films. (Note: I watched some parts of these films but I finished Dreamgirls, Shrek, Finding Nemo and Music and Lyrics); play single-player and multi-player games and more!

The foodies especially chocolates are over-flowing. They served salad but I don't eat salad! Some of the flight attendants were quite not that young. :P I had a flashback of my elementary science days when I looked at the clouds. Cirrus? Cumulus? Haha :P Click here.

Because I was jealous of other teams in WSNT which have their own team pics, I suggested that my mighty team, B2E, should have our own as well. So last May 29, we had our official B2E Photo Shoot! (theme: matrix inspired corporate attire)

After some camera-whore shots, we went to Pizza Hut - Megamall for our despedida lunch. We utilized our gimik funds wisely and were able to feast over cheezy pops! :D Then we went to the other side of the mall in search for masks.

We had our WSNT Coffee talk later that day with the theme: Masquerade that's why we need to wear masks. And thanks to Peggy and some 50 bucks, I was awarded as the Best Mask 2nd runner-up! Instant Starbucks Gift Certificates! :D

So after every practices, there comes the performance! And we nailed it as we grabbed the Best New Hires Presentation title! Ferline and Friends are fortunate enough to have a rich pool of talented HP employees that's why we have dancers and our very own band! Ever thought of a variety show in a coffee talk? :D

As the main choreographer, I'm very proud of the dancers! Regards to Starry, Tanya, Kabby, MJ, Cai, Cindy, Cris, Junjie, Jiro, Sanjay, Bryan, MT and Jack. More performances in the future!

I was thinking about the title of this post. The first thing that came up was 'Pharmaton', which is the brand of my multivitamins right now. It costs around 20 pesos per capsule against my previous brand Centrum which is around 9 pesos per capsule. That was costly, but I can feel the effects! Even though I worked for 12 hours, I can withstand it. Talking about stress management.

Apologies for my blog readers for I am really too pre-occupied with a lot of things. You know, I'm working. Yes, I am. My day started out right, a genie appeared when I woke up, then I became so damn happy after! Call that a figure of speech. *wink* I thought this will be a great day because my team leader, Jonjon, will be treating us dinner tonight! More over, this is the first time that I'll be getting my salary. I'll be some hundred pesos richer tonight. But before I arrived to work, the van I was riding was caught by an MMDA man. Everyone in the van was murmuring, "Lagyan na kasi." Talking about graft and corruption here. See, it's the people who are instigating this public officials to do some dirty tactics. How would they be able to change?

I think if Pichay will land on the senate, he can do a great job in dealing with this aspect. For me, Pichay is the most underrated senatorial bet among the 36 senatoriables we have right now. As far as credentials are concerned, he should be in the top 12. But many of us see him as a mascot and his commercials are comic-relief. He earned my respect though. When Roro, Renz, and I had our lunch at Mangan in Glorietta last week, Roro told me that ordinary voters won't buy in Pichay. And he spent more than 150 million 9and counting) during his campaign, Roro said that he should spent this to create a name (say, build homes, etc.) because in terms of popularity, he is really in the shadows. Anyway, I'll cast a vote for him :) By the way, the service in this branch of Mangan is terribly awful.

To the government officials in Quezon City/Caloocan City, kindly pay attention to the squatters staying in the Clover Leaf Interchange (around the monument there). For so many months, I always see rugby/solvent-infested people. Please take some appropriate actions. Oh yes, it seems that I'll be in a senatorial-slate few years from now! :P

I'll be going to UP tomorrow to do the following: get some money from the PNB-UP Campus Branch, to go to the chapel which I missed so much, to see how Cursor people are doing in FOPC, to get my grad pics taken during the Eng'g Recognition Rites and my yearbook! Thanks to Mark for taking the responsibility in helping me out. :)

I'll be leaving the country on May 30 heading Poland to do some work there. I researched a bit about Poland, the temperature is hitting 9 degrees Celsius, a McDo's BigMac costs 6.90 Zloty which is around 118 pesos. Not bad compared to Japan's high standard of living. Vodka is what they are famous for. :)

LONG LONG TIME AGO

This is my mood for the week.

It's been a while. Really. I have 7 pending blog posts but I can't chase time to let my pen do the writing. Sheez. My schedule is so tight. Tight to the point that I can't breathe. Drama prince I am. Never mind, I'll try to recall what happened. The best way to be updated with my barren life is to hunt me here. You know, photo story is the best alternative to a journal -- if that makes sense.

In a nutshell, I finally graduated. I praise and glorify our UP Valedictorian, Mikaela Fudolig. I'll be going to Poland -- my first official business trip and my first chance to ride an airplane. A dream come true more than anything else. There is a sort of reunion with Roro, Marcee and Renz as the accomplices. I finally sank in the bottom of a swimming pool during our offsite in Batangas. Nice place. Nice accomodation. Poor serving of food. I had a chance to play a Takeshi's Castle original game, was able to apply my experience in Command & Conquer -- thanks to Eng'g Week and my experience in Photo Sprinteng'g -- UP Cursor's first 1st place victory last Eng'g Week.

And my heart is beating fast.

CS GRAD PARTY

Coming from Ortigas, I went to Kublai's Katipunan for our CS Grad Party yesterday. Nakapunta na ako sa venue 2 years ago dahil sa UP Lakan's 18th Anniv Night. The food is good, it is the typical mongolian grill, however, with more choices, pero hindi ko type yung timpla nung sa akin. Kaya naka-isang bowl lang ako unlike dati.

To sum it up, masaya talaga yung party kasi venue yun for us. After 4, 5 or 6 years, finally, naka-graduate din ang batch ko. May game na ang aim ay makilala namin ang aming mga batchmates. May special balloting for special awards. Ang mga naalala ko lang ay, pinakamami-miss ay sina Alan, Jerry at Krissa. Ang laging hinihiraman ng notes ay si Faye. Ang pinaka-matalino ay si Alan. Ang may aura na leader sa tingin pa lang ay ako. Haha. Ang pinakamakulit ay si Maki. 'Yun lang naalala ko. Plus, Nhiza as our Alumni Batch Rep.

OFFICIALLY EMPLOYED

I was in my first company's 'on-boarding session' the whole day. And yes, I am officially employed. I'll just disclose more stories after the small coffee talk with my manager. He told me earlier that my work sched is 9am - 6pm, weekdays only -- which means there is a very low probability of being on 'night shift' therefore no shift premium/additional pay. Haha. It might be an alarm as well that I'm not 'on-call' therefore no Globe postpaid. Sheez. I also infer that I really can't teach CS 192 this summer due to time conflict. Sorry, guys.

I want to watch Perfect Stranger because of Halle Berry. Who cares to watch with me?

VICTORY

Once again, Manny Pacquiao prevailed over Jorge Solis before the 8th round clock ended. Congrats. Though I hope Pacquiao won't make it in the congress. Hehe.

Kian was booted out of PBB house last night over a mediocre type, Bodie. What a dismay. But the good news, Gee-Ann is consistently topping the votes for three weeks. I am looking forward to a Nel-GeeAnn-Mickey-Bodie nomination week so that the 'star child' will be kicked out.

As for American Idol, the theme is country with Martina Mcbride as the vocal coach. Phil Stacey will go home next week though I hope it will be Sanjaya. 'If You Don't Know Me By Now' is a good song choice for Melinda.

On the other hand, I am smelling Charla and Mirna and Dustin and Kandice will dominate the Amazing Race All-Stars. Fingers crossed.

A new chapter of my chronicles will unfold tomorrow. The mark of the real corporate culture. I am meeting Nhiza, Jesse and Renz at Jollibee Insular for a jump start breakfast before the first day of work.

It's been a while since I updated my blog. Sorry, avid readers. I'm a bit occupied in beating my requirements for employment, searching for a condo bedspace/rental/sub-lease and other stuff. First and foremost, I received my grade for CS 199 which is 1.0, thanks to our adviser, therefore, I'll graduate on time. I created a simple JAVA program that analyzes my grades incurred during my four years in UP for fun sake. This is the output:

My name will be posted outside the Engineering Library and will become part of the history. Haha. Last year's recipient came from the CS department as well. Two in a row! Now, who says that CS is not a vital part of the College of Eng'g? :P

I was looking around Ortigas for a possible place to live in while at work. I know for a fact that I'm more productive if I won't consume my spare time in traveling -- that's why I used to be in a dorm back in college. Did I say 'back'? As if it was way way ago. Haha. I'm not officially a graduate by the way! Then, I found a condo unit (bedspace) for P4,000 only!

That includes water and electricity fees, cable TV, use of appliances such as ref, washing machine with dryer, flat iron, gas range, toaster, microwave oven, etc. It is fully-furnished plus free use of the gym, sauna, jacuzzi and the pool. That was hot! What do you think, guys? Let's trade notes. It is directly behind Robinson's Galleria and Holiday Inn so it will be a walking distance from my unit to my workplace which is on the other side of Megamall. We are four in the room plus the owner of the unit. Actually, I prefer Cityland Shaw Towers if there is a share-a-condo thing there. Anyone? Before the day end, I met Mari along Exchange Road and decided to have a coffee at Starbucks-Tektite.

To complete my pre-employment requirements, I filled up a lot of forms. I mean a LOT to the point that my right hand felt numb. And the most intriguing part of all is the medical examination. Oh, forget my first hand experience with urine and stool samples! One word. Yuck. I have a slight fear when it comes to needles so I was freaking out inside when the doctor injected the syringe to get 10ml (just estimating) of blood. I was not violated during the physical exam because I was not stripped all the way unlike others. And I got a perfect score of 15 in the Color Blind test. I now weigh 49 kilos!

I'll be attending the company orientation on Monday then a jump start first day of work on Tuesday. Then, I'll be giving a short speech on our CS Grad Party this Wednesday (in-behalf-of-the-graduates-type of speech).

As far as I know, the deadline of grade submission for graduating students like me ends today. Through the online grades viewing, I found out that these are my grades for the semester (right side).

I wonder why I don't have a grade in CS 199 yet. Is it because of...? My current GWA stands at 1.10. That was a great sem. Thanks to all my mentors for making my last memorable. Almost a perfect year minus CS 133. Oh, headache. :P

This is the most toxic academic year for me because I did not just focused on the academics part but on the extra-curricular activities as well. But still, I managed to deliver. Thanks to a friend, Mr. Time Management.

PENITENCE

My mom is not around this whole holy week so one of my sacrifices done was to do households chores. I don't stay at home (in Bulacan) often these past months due to a lot of campus assignments so this is the best time to do something good around. I'll be spending the week here to enjoy a much-deserved rest. I do have plans to work a couple of weeks from now so I just have to maximize every single second. My best friends Renz and Jesse's first day of work is slated on April 16 as well so I might join the hype. :) Note that our graduation is set on the 22nd of April! Do the math.

I missed the days when broadcasting companies don't usually have regular program schedules. I recalled when I don't have any options but to watch either classic or religious films. We aren't cable subscriber here and before, only MTV Philippines through Channel 41 has full-length shows. Those were the days when I got to watch Lino Brocka and Ishmael Bernal creations. But as of this writing, films like LoveStruck and I Will Always Love You will be shown. I really don't get it, as if I can repent with these shows. Even Pinoy Big Brother will have a live streaming starting tomorrow.

Actually, most of the people feel that the 5-day holiday that will end on Monday is a vacation. Yes, it is as it goes in my case of getting an 8 hour sleep at last. But bear in mind the real essence of the week. It's not just an ordinary week, it is holy.

FINAL WEEK

Last Monday, nagkita ang ilan sa outgoing at incoming UP ACM Council sa Pancake House with our adviser, Sir Rommel Feria. Ngunit bago ako nakapunta sa venue, sobrang daming obstacles ang aking pinagdaanan with Helen kaya late kami ng 1 hour and 30 minutes. At eto ay dahil sa paghahanap namin ng taxi. Binaybay namin ang UP para sa aming search pero hindi nagtagumpay. Marami raw taxi sa AS, wala naman. So sa pumunta kami sa Philcoa at bumaba ng Commonwealth, bago mag-U-turn ang jeep. But no, hindi na kami napapansin ng mga taxi drivers dahil madilim na nun (7PM). So naglakad kami papuntang Philcoa proper at dun nakasakay. Exciting 'no? Pero mas exciting ang fact nag pinagttsismisan kami including our adviser kung bakit kami late. Umi-issue kayo! :P

Dahil final week ko sa UP, officially, dahil kakapasa lang namin ng hardbound thesis paper namin kagabi (Congrats, thesismates!), I took some pics that will somehow remind me of my stay sa premier university. Saka na lang ulit ang kukuha ng ibang pics kasi limited lang ang oras ko kagabi dahil naghakot ako ng gamit sa dorm pauwi ng Bulacan. Two days na akong naghahakot! :'(

FLUOROSIS

One of the trivia questions I know is the disease you'll get if you put a lot of Colgate (Crest or Close-Up to be fair with other manufacturing companies, haha) when brushing your teeth which is called fluorosis. I went to a dental clinic for dental cleaning. I have my pearl-white teeth again. Haha.

I am waiting for my dentist for my dental cleaning.
The last time I saw her, she is holding a vacuum cleaner. :P

We are finishing our thesis paper today so that we'll have it reproduced and hardbounded in Recto tomorrow. I had my breakfast at 9AM and lunch at 3:30PM therefore abnormal diet for today. I paid a lot of fees concerning my graduation -- 200 pesos for the UP Alumni Engineers membership and 175 for the Recognition Rites fee.

So to speak, I bought 2 boxes to place my dorm stuff since we need to vacate the dorm by Tuesday. I'll enjoy my last days on my second home.

Chris Sligh got the boot. He is a sour-graping -- he tells everyone that he doesn't want to win American Idol in the first place and just wanted to reach the Top 10 for the tour. What the?! Although I really wanted Sanjaya to leave, I know he'll remain. My final four: Jordin Sparks, Blake Lewis, Melinda Doolittle and Chris Richardson. I like them because with them on the stage, AI is a different singing contest -- not the typical diva-thing.

Oh no, nakatulugan ko palang mag-aral para sa COBOL finals ko. In short, hindi ako nakapag-aral sa isang FINALS exam. So nagmadali akong gumising at pumunta ng Engg para dun na din magbreakfast. Pagdating ko dun, I saw Ma'am Sharon again and I therefore conclude na she's the early bird to beat! She had donuts with her meaning chichibog kami sa klase. Ganun talaga 'pag last day, either may kainan or minsan may photo-op, or mapagkakasunduan ng klase na wala nalang pasok.

Wala talagang pumasok sa utak ko kaya ipinaubaya ko na lang sa stored knowledge ko ang exam. Sabi ko, tutal, hindi na naman posible ang uno-sem ko dahil sa 1.25 ko sa IE 3, ok lang na mababa ako. Saka gusto ko nang kumain ng donuts kaya tinapos ko agad ang exam. After a couple of bavarian filled donuts, I went to the SA area to finish my curriculum vitae for an award to be given on the Engineering Recognition Rites. Then I found out that one of the two meetings I'll attend was postponed so thanks to my flexibility that I worked around the edges of my sched. It was at 11AM then and I need to be around Ortigas by lunch time. Di ko naayos ang documents at pinasa ko na sa table ni Sir Quiwa. I saw other nominees by IE Club - and no doubt, I'm against the best students in the batch. Pero malaking honor na 'yung irepresent ko ang CS dept which is by the way the Center of Excellence in Information Technology as of March 2007 (accredited by CHED)! I hope isang CS student ulit ang ma-award-an just like last year.

So I skipped lunch then met the best manager I encountered so far in all of the companies I applied for. Actually, kahit sa ibang company ako mapunta, I'll really look up to him. He was the one who gave me the job offer at dapat HR ang gumagawa nun. I don't if that is a plus point though. Basta sobrang approachable nya at down to earth -- the kind of people that I enjoy working with. He is a man of intellect. Basta nag-usap kami at talagang speechless ako after. I was blown away, I told him. Before we part ways, he asked me to teach him a little french. I think I have to see my grade in French 10 first so that I'll not disappoint him. Hehe.

When I wear a corporate attire, they thought that I am
from La Salle. Good thing or the other way around? :P

After I caught up with a friend named lunch, I went to Emerald Ave for my next destination. From Julia Vargas, I skipped the building I am looking for and reached the end of the road which is the Jollibee building. So I went back after I asked a traffic enforcer of my whereabouts. When I arrived at the office, I was stunned. Ang konyo ng paligid. The receptionist is really pretty and cute. I thougt she was Vanna Garcia. Then I went to the Board room where my interview happened. Right after, I got the job offer. It was relatively high (but not enough against other companies which gave me offers already). I am giving myself until April 15 though to decide.

Then after some time, I went to another building and came back and went to Megamall to meet a good friend. Ryan and I ate at Red Ribbon and I realized that I ate my lunch there the day before. So another sugar rush took place while I enjoyed my blueberry cheesecake. After a short time of chatting, we parted ways since he needs to go back to his work. He got promoted by the way but ironically, I was the one who was in charge of the bill. Haha. He treated me twice before so that's pretty acceptable.

A slice of calories. I mean, blueberry cheesecake. :P

And surprisingly, I was able to take the MRT at Ortigas station after skipping a single train only unlike last night where I missed 7 trains. My day ended while Jesse and I are exchanging text messages. We missed eah other I suppose. And I'm glad we were able to iron out issues.

I'll be back there sooner.

Fanatic ako ng mga reality show at hindi pwedeng hindi ako magcomment sa mga issues na ito. Although active poster (Posting Expert na nga ang rank ko) sa isang online forum, nais ko lang ilahad dito ang aking mga saloobin sa mga local reality TV shows ngayon.

Pinoy Big Brother
Automatic nominated si Bea for answering the 7th call and I think she is the most vulnerable to get the boot this Sunday. Why? She only got 20% of the votes against Kian and Gee-Ann which she is again in contention with the latter having 43%. I have all the angst against Zeke for all his immaturity in handling Dionne but I'm more than confident that even though he topped the nomination board, he'll top the voting race as well. He has the looks and the international market so abck him up. Remember the globeys of PDA? As for Dionne and Wendy, I love them both. I am enjoying the show.

Starstruck
As expected, Aljur won the Ultimate Hunk title while Jewel bagged the Ultimate Sweetheart stint. Mart and Kris were hailed as the Ultimate Loveteam. Pretty ironic, Prince and Rich are poor compared to others -- opposite with their names.

Who's the first top model of the country by the way? I like the show somehow. Though the website is pretty catastrophic.

Finally, the finalists are completed. Actually, the entire month of April is dedicated for the world finalists. So they will be around 9 or 10, the biggest so far in number. I'm rooting for Maricris and Joyce and the guy who won after Bryan.

MORNINGS AT ORTIGAS

Gee, I just realized that Ortigas is becoming pretty familiar to me as I found myself wandering around early morning. I took a technical interview -- finding the minimum cost of something that I'll not disclose here due to confidentiality. Then, they told me that I passed it and that I need to come back after 2 hours for the job offer.

As for the monthly salary rate, it plays between 30K and 40K pesos for 13 months. And after 6 months (without bond), a guaranteed at least 10% increase will be added. Pretty competitive for me really.

After a gulp of Quickly Coffee 2 + Nata at SM Megamall, I went back to UP to return Renz' COBOL book and to finish my CV for a certain award-giving body. The Computer Science Department nominated me for this title and I hope I'll not disappoint them. *fingers crossed*

By the way, a funny thing about yesterday -- I receive a lot of messages I do not intend to receive. The most interesting about this is the fact that you'll be surprised that some people is backstabbing you -- you'll know this because you got to read a message against you but should not be sent to you anyway. Cool.

I'll go back to Ortigas tomorrow for Job Offer #3 and to meet someone regarding Job Offer #2. Five minutes ago, it's the third time that I turned down a company. I guess I'm learning the art of rejection. Pretty tough. By the way, I'm giving myself until April 15 to decide. Lenten season is the best season to reflect and think things over, right?

Kakatapos lang ng oral at written exam ko sa French 10. It was a very funny day!

As for the oral exam, partner ko si Renz as usual. We even had our rehearsal at Starbucks -SM North. Nagbunutan ng situations at ang gagawin namin ay [1] bibili ako kay Renz ng 2 train tickets for adults to Perpignon na dapat ay non-smoking ang room at [2] ako ay call center operator at tatawag si Renz sa opisina namin, hahanapin niya si Monsieur Thomas at sasabihin kong maghintay siya. Ok siya, dahil nakakatawa ako ay kinuhanan pa kami ni Ma'am Racquel ng video habang nagppresent. Pa'no na lang kung ipa-film showing nya yun!?

Then after, just when we thought na everything is over -- may impromptu pa! Kunwari daw, nagkita kami ni Ma'am Racquel sa train station and I'm with Tom Cruise, ipapakilala ko sila sa isa't isa. After nun, nagtanong si Ma'am ng mga sumusunod:

T: Je te presente. M. Cruise, c'est Mme. Mendoza. Mme. Mendoza, c'est M. Cruise.
R: Il est francais? (Is he French?)
T: Ah.. Non, il est americain. (No, he is American.)
R: Il est chanteur? (Is he a singer?)

Just when you thought that it is simple, no don't have any idea! Then we had our finals and it is pretty hard because I am unfamiliar with some of the french words.

I just hope that I'll accept a job that will give me a chance to go to France to deal with some French people for me to use these new-found skills.

^ This is my mood for the week

My youngest sister is about to graduate this Thursday with honors as well. I don't know if I'll drop by at her school in Bulacan since I'm at UP every weekdays. (All three of us went to the same elementary catholic school.)

Yes, I'll graduate with honors (cum laude) this April but of course I need to satisfy all the remaining requirements piled up. I have to pay a lot of graduation fees and I need to search for a perfect barong for two days. (April 21 - Engineering Rites, April 22 - University Graduation)

But the funny thing is that I keep on telling my family that I won't graduate this April for I have failed a subject last 1st sem (which is CS 131 where I actually got a 1.5). What a blooper! I just wanted to surprise them. I don't know if my brother passes by here but if he does, then my prank is over.

Ngayon lang ulit ako nakapanood ng TV after a week. Yes, after a week. Wala naman kasi akong TV sa kwarto ko sa dorm. Merong TV area sa dorm pero unlike dati, hindi na ako nakakapunta dahil usually ay late akong umuuwi from a coffee shop.

Flood na pala ng mga political ads ang mga TV networks. Ang alam ko ay may 30% discount kasi sila compared sa mga product endorsements talaga. I saw Tessie-Aquino-Oreta's teleserye -- I mean TV ad as well. *silence*

If there is flooding, that would be party list campaign materials. They are plenty! And the common thing, they start with letter 'A', all hoping that voters will just rely on the first page of the candidates. Yes, I am a registered voter since last elections. I have the right to complain because my voice was heard.

LAST DAY OF CLASSES

As the UP Academic Calendar dictates, this day is the last day of classes. Next week is the finals week. Good luck to everyone (may we pass all the exams with flying colors) and congrats batch mates! We did it!

ANNOUNCEMENT: UP offices will observe a 4-day work schedule per week staring April 1. Offices are closed every Monday. As for Tuesday - Friday, the office hours tick at 7:30AM - 6:30PM.

Hindi natuloy ang meeting namin regarding the planning of our batch vacation/outing. At medyo tinamad na akong mag-organize. Saka stressed ako sa MP namin sa CS 173 -- isang Malaking Problema.

I got a freaking 1.25 in my IE 3. I missed the chance to have an 'uno' sem. My raw score is 1.62 points short to reach 1.0, oh well. I'll just choose the subject that will be credited as my Engg Elective between CS 173-Cobol and IE 3, whichever is higher. Actually, it really doesn't matter at all.

Ok, I looked like a Green Archer in business attire. I'll take that as a compliment.

Dahil sa mga kumpanyang nasa paligid ko, I realized a lot of things:

> Na hindi pa rin ako decided kung ano sa mga job offers na naibigay sa akin ang tatanggapin ko.

> Na hanggang April 15 ang binibigay kong deadline sa sarili ko para magbigay ng desisyon.

> Na ang GWA ko pala kung CS subjects lang ay 1.35 (1.25 actually kung tatanggalin ang 2.75 kong CS 130 dahil sa olats na klase).

> Na mukhang hindi pa matutuloy ang aming batch outing for some reasons dahil sa trabaho.

WAVE

Parang surfer ako ngayon sa ibabaw ng isang malaking wave (natural, nasa alon). Ang point lang ay parang wave ang araw ko -- may trough, may crest (tama ba?). Basta iba-iba at di ko maexplain.

Maagang nagsimula ang araw ko, actually by 12AM. Nag-unli kasi ako tapos mga 1 hour bago magconfirm, so 1AM na at tulog na ang mga katext ko. I fel asleep at around 2AM then woke up at 7AM -- tiniis ang malamig na tubig dahil ang goal ko ay maagang makarating ng MH 215 dahil deadline ng CS 173 MP (COBOL). Sa MH215 lang kasi pwedeng magcompile at malaman kung tama ang logic namin. So 8AM dapat andun ako.

Maaga ako than expected but I met JT (classmate) and Ma'am Sharon (instructor from Accenture) before 8AM so nagbreakfast muna ako (luncheon meat + sunny side up + fried rice + longanisa). Ako na rin ang nagbukas ng MH215 dahil atat akong magcompile.

Ako yata ang naunang nagcompile pero wa-epek. Hindi gumana. Topak talaga. Hindi pumapasok sa if statement na greater than eh pinrint ko na nga ang laman ng variables tapos papasok siya dapat pero hindi. Ay, malabo 'no? Malabo talaga. Walang nakatapos sa amin ng MP kaya extended. Sayang ang 110 pts ko nung MP1. Tsk. Ewan. Kaasar.

I ate lunch with Kai , Rap and Renz tapos pumunta na sa Ortigas (sa Phil Stock Exchange, naglakad ako from Ortigas MRT to Tektite.) sa isang software development company. Namangha ako dahil ang akala ko, mga 20 developers lang sila pero malaki din pala ang population nila. Then I experienced their notorious 10 item exam ( na may promo pa sila dati na kapag na-perfect mo ay may IPod Shufle ka). Eto ang pinaka-exciting na application process so far kasi technical talaga. At I missed my CS 11 and 12 days na nagttrace ng code. Buti di pa ako nakalimot. Mga 7 items ang confident ako so pasado na ako -- which happened to be true. At dahil alam nilang nagmamadali ako sa process, nag-HR/personality interview na din ako (for 1.5 hours). Ok naman ang results, technical interview ko either on Monday or Tuesday, depende sa French finals ko.

In fairness, dahil sa HR interview ko, na-assess ko ang sarili ko kung ano ba ang pinagagagawa ko nung college. At least I gained something. I once told myself na I'll stick with 3 companies na lang. Pero tin-ry ko na rin for learning experience. Saka they'll offer competitive compensation package daw against sa mga offers na sa akin, so subukan ko na rin. Wala namang mawawala sa akin, oras lang at lama ng stored value card ko sa MRT (may 2 pa ako sa pocket).

On my way home, nasa Ortigas MRT station ako at after 7 trains na dumaan at palipat-lipat ng queue marks (yung yellow paint), I finally made it! Grabe talaga. Then I realized one thing -- Patience is really a virtue. It is. *sigh*

PERFECT ROMANTIC DATE

I'll spoil it. This due to a dorm mate which is actually a classmate of mine in French 10. His room is directly beside my room and every time he plays his violin -- my world stops.

Yes, I really wanted to learn how to play the violin. It is th most romantic musical instrument for me. It is my frustration. I have this pact between me and myself that I should play a violin when I propose either engagement or marriage. Hehe.

How much is a violin and a violin lesson? It would be hard for me 'cause I don't even know how to play a guitar. Help! :P

We had a feast last night at Cravings in Katipunan -- it was Leah's debut celebration. If I'm not mistaken, her birthday was actually last week (March 10). Nevertheless, a handful of people who became part of her 18 fruitful years were there.

As for any birthday celebration, it is imperative to sing a birthday song. And I was bullied by Cursor members to lead the singing. Thanks guys, a dream come true -- to sing in front of a crowd. Wow *sarcasm*. And because I have a partner by the way (Leah's high school friend from Miriam), I took in charge of clapping with the line "Put your hands in the air, c'mon!" Something like that and everyone was laughing. I should be paid for being a clown. I had two plates of mouth-watering food so perhaps that's my talent fee.

Before the event, I went to church first. The Gospel is about the prodigal son *ehem ehem*. And I was really moved by what the priest mentioned during the homily -- "To wait." I'll keep it to myself for the mean time -- and I'll patiently wait.

I also had a gulp of Quickly's Coffee 2 with Nata yesterday. Forget about Choco Loco. I need to be awake. Then I learned that Jerry, Renz and Mari are at Bo's Coffee and was disappointed.

Who knows a travel package to Puerto Galera for 3 days and 2 nights stay?

ATTITUDE PROBLEM

This day is not my usual day. So many things happened that I wanted to explode.

I do have an attitude problem right now. Kindly stay away. I'm more than dangerous. I'll leave UP for a while and have a short vacation at Bulacan. I'll still attend Leah's debut celebration on Sunday but I'll forget about the Hard Rock Cafe event.

Now, I don't have a clear preview on where I am heading after my graduation. I am such a loser.

WELL DESERVED REST

I arrived at my room yesterday around 8PM after I bought my dinner at Yakal. I went to the Adoration Chapel first to thank God for guiding us in our thesis. After all the starts and stops (familiar line huh?), the trials, hardships and sacrifices, we pulled it off. Our group got two marks of 'A' from the two panel members.

When I was in my room, I realized that I haven't slept there for some time. I counted... (I was at Big John's house at Muntinlupa to finish our thesis last Saturday and Sunday) 1... 2... (I went home at Bulacan last Monday) 3... (I went to Mari's house to finish my thesis presentation materials) 4... I wasn't been around for 4 days. Cool.

Since my eye-bags are now on their adolescence, I started to rid them by taking a well deserved sleep. I checked my phone and saw that it was around 8:51PM. When I finally out of bed, it was 12:37PM. Oh yes.

I'll be going to Makati tomorrow for a meeting at Microsoft. Then I heard that we will be watching a movie. We will celebrate our thesis completion at Hard Rock Cafe on Saturday. Meow.

SET OF GOOD NEWS

I received this URL through a private message. And woah! Free Starbucks coffee tomorrow from 10AM - 12NN?! A coffee whore like me won't miss that! Woohoo!

And another reason to celebrate, thesis is finally over! (Not officially since we have to submit the paper sooner, but I can sense it already!) I just have to focus on doing three things: Pass my French 10 written and oral exams, Pass my IE 3 3rd Exam. Prepare my career path! Forgive me, I'm just overwhelmed. Roanne noticed that everyone (with thesis) has a shining, shimmering aura today.

The firing squad during the thesis presentation ain't that painful this time. Thanks to our panel -- Sir Henry, Sir Rommel, Sir JP and Ma'am Riza. And to my thesis mates, why not another cup of coffee tomorrow at 10AM? My treat!

LETTERS AND HIDDEN AGENDA

Since 2007 opened, I received a lot of letters from different companies saying that I am part of the upper 10% of the College of Engineering 2007 graduates. Some of the letters were also invitations about ceratin events like job fairs and career talks. But I'll be highlighting two letters. One from an honor society and another one from a politician.

This honor society told me through the letter that they are selecting a few number of UP students who has a good academic background. Being part of a honor society is like a movie ride for me -- anyone seen Skull? But I learned that I have to pay almost 3,000 pesos to become an internationl member. Wow. No, thanks.

And another letter came from a senatoriable candidate this May elections bragging his achievements in passing bills concerning education. "Ang gara talaga ng letter!", I told myself. Furthermore, his office should give me cash bonus for being a great student -- then he gets my vote. Wee.

I love opening letters sealed in white long envelopes, right?

THESIS

And we are finally motivated. Everyone will be surprised with our project! Haha.

I do have two job offers in my belt already. Which company will I choose? Actuall, I was kind of disappointed with one of the offers. I just thought that I'll get more like what the offer gave me, more than the usual/normal basic pay. Sigh. I'm just waiting for one more company and its decision time! Haha.

Sampaguita Women's Baketball team won the Inter-dorm Women's Basketball title. I was there to support Heidie. Haha.

I took the oppurtunity to order a Caramel Java Chip Frappe venti during our Microsoft meeting since it was Sir Tim's treat. Oh yeah, 6 digits. Haha.

I am taking time to grab pictures for my Multiply account. I don't know, I just wanted to post our pics there. Graduation syndrome it is -- keeping the memories of college. Haha.

CAMPING TIME

No, I'm not heading any mountain. It's just that I met 6 of my co-campers earlier at Teriyaki Boy Megastrip to have a dinner together after a long while. We call ourselves as student campers since we were part fo PLDT Student Camp Program 2006.

I looked like a volcano which erupted after 600 dormant years.

This post is dedicated to this person who is most of the time, 'bastos' by disrepecting other people through his (a clue!) actions (not the typical maniac, say work ethics). This person will always have time to talk and talk and not just talk -- pour in comments (some constructive though) and bash some stuff. While he will always do the talking, he was never been a man of action (not unless beneficial to him). Ok, that was an overstatement -- but most of the time, he was never been one. He never fails to pinpoint problems but most of the time, he never drew a solution. If he does (to my delight and surprise), he will often never execute it -- in other terms, will raise his foot and walk away and will just demand other people to take care of it. However, the biggest headache is that when he does not even care who will do his suggestions or what.

The heck.

BALLOT FORM

Some of the highlights of what happened yesterday (USC/ESC elections)

1. For the past decade, laging huli ang Eng'g sa pagdadala ng results sa University Student Electoral Board dahil syempre, pinakamalaki ang population ng Eng'g at binibilang pa ang ESC at USC ballots. Pero ngayon, may mga 5 colleges pang sumunod after nabilang ang Eng'g results.

2. Malaki ang turn-out of voters this year para sa Eng'g. Oh yes, from last year's apathetic 20%-30%, pumalo ito sa 50% this year! Hurray! At least, well represented ang Eng'g this time.

3. Isa sa mga dahilan marahil ng Item 1 at 2 ay ang computerized election courtesy of Halalan ng UnPlug. Kasi hindi na magbibilangan ng ESC votes dahil instant agad ang results kapag natapos ang election time. O(1) time complexity pa nga daw. Hehe. At dahil marami ang curious sa computerized election, maraming taga-Eng'g ang bumoto.

4. Testifying Item 2, ang taas ng mga nakuhang boto ng EEE reps this year. At umabot sa 900 plus ang boto ng top Eng'g Rep na si Kiko from Kaisa. Si Nina Acasio na favorite ko simula pa lang campaign period nya nung tumatakbo siyang Eng'g rep dahil lagi ko siyang pinapakanta ay nakakuha ng 1,000+ votes mula sa Eng'g (top siya sa Eng'g).

5. Ang ganda ng CE computer lab with their flat screen and flat panel monitors and wi-fi enabled PC's. Tinalo pa kami sa CS. Argh. :P

6. Landslide ang pagkapanalo ni Mark Tan for ESC Chair. Around 1,100 ang margin sa kalaban. Kahit sa EEE na college nilang dalawa, 260 ang nakuha niya versus 57 ng kalaban. Prime ulit ang incumbent/majority political party sa ESC. Congrats! :)

7. Sayang at walang KAISA na pumasok sa USC Councilor pataas. Exciting ang next USC dahil split ang Alyansa at Stand-UP with 6-6 councilors. Sana lang ay matupad ang inyong mga plataporma kahit magkaiba kayo ng partido.

8. USC elections pa rin, nakakatuwa yung mga block voting kapag home college ng isang kandidato ang kolehiyong iyon. Halimbawa, sa Eng'g, nahatak talaga si Nina ng kanyang 1,000. Sa Islamic Studies, 17-0-0 si Shan laban sa kanyang mga katunggali. Ang kuya ng aking orgmate ay top sa Archi with 200 votes. Kaya dapat suportado ng college ang mga tumatakbo. Hehe.

Pagbalik ko sa dorm kahapon, naka-ildip pala ako ng hindi inaasahan. Mga 4:30PM na ako nagising at nagpasyang umuwi na ng Bulacan kundi ay gagabihin na naman ako. Walang kaabog-abog ay tinext ko si Marcee, bestfriend since highschool na nursing senior ng FEU sa kasalukuyan. Sinabi kong papunta ako ng SM North dahil pauwi nga ako ng Bulacan, at kung nasa paligid siya para magkita naman kami bago mag-graduation.

Nasa Mindanao Ave. na ako nang matanggap ko ang kumpirmasyon nyang makikipagkita nga siya sa akin. Within 15 minutes sa Papelmeroti, ang aming laging rendezvous. Bumili muna ako ng payong na Fibrella para hindi na sirain. Sakto, paglabas ko ng department store, nakita nya agad ako. Nagcomment siya sa outfit ko, kasi naka-white uniform siya. Sabi ko pampasok lang naman ito, may pang-gimik pa ako. Haha. At nagtawanan kami.

So we decided to level up kaya sa Pizza Hut kami kumain. Wala naman sa planong kumain kami, basta ang importante, makapagkwentuhan kami. Order dito, order dun. Treat ko ang Steak Fries. (I-connect sa title, haha) At nagsimula ang aming mga kwentuhan.

Sa totoo lang, para ngang lagi kaming nagkikita ni Marcee. Walang dull moment. Nakwento nya ang mga experiences nya sa emergency room at iba pang detalye tngkol sa death experiences ng mga pasyente nya na ayokong ikwento dito. Napag-usapan din namin ang mga plano ko sa karera ko. At syempre magflashblack sa mga kalokohan namin nung highschool.

Matagal ulit kaming magkikita, alam ko. Pero who cares, alam naming andyan lang kami para sa isa't isa. :)

ROBBERY

I think Leslie Hunt and AJ Tabaldo were robbed earlier in American Idol Top 20 Competition. It was disgusting to see Antonella Barba and Sanjaya Malakar with great hopes to head straight to the Final 12 while others are struggling.

Based on DialIdol, Melinda Doolittle fared well for both weeks and I was surprised! I thought she isn't marketable and doesn't have the charisma to gain the votes from America. Too early to tell but am I hearing finale?

Still based on DialIdol, the guy's top competitor is Sundance Head. And it seems the producers really want him in -- he maximized TV exposure in tonight's episode while crying like a baby when his pals got the boot.

A HOUSE IS NOT A HOME...

This is my mood for the day.

But a dorm is a home for me. This line was the one running through my head last night when I witnessed the meeting de avance of University Student Council candidates from three political party -- Alyansa, Kaisa and Stand-Up. And oh my, I never expected an meeting de avance that way -- I always have this connotation that these events should be serious in a debate-like manner but Narra Residence Hall is a venue like hell. Fiery hell for the candidates!

Just to name few, ever imagined that Chesa, Hernan and Shan was asked to do a Kris-James-Hope skit? Ever imagined the girls from these parties to participate in a Banana-Eating-Contest, how they ate bananas in their sexiest way. (Thanks to the Narrehan's androgen) And the dorm's most elusive pole where you can't expect some candidates to have a dance showdown with a fellow dormmate (but yes, they just did it without hesitation) and even climbed (like the native Palo Sebo). Some even did the usual dirty dance while hanging in the window grills. And the formal initiation, for them to drink a few shots of gin. It was really wacky and my jaw dropped while laughing.

It was my first time to see these serious candidates' other side. Only at Narra, my second home.

Today is March 1 and as far as I know, the original New Year Celebration is celebrated every March 1 before it was moved to the usual January 1. And today is March 1. This day served as an alarm for so many things like my career track, my graduation, our post-graduation-Puerto-Galera-Escapade and our thesis. This day also made me realized my college life as a whole, new faces I met in and out of UP, the equilibrium between academics and extra-curricular activities, how I enjoyed and maximized by GE subjects like Theater 10, how I crammed to climb the BSCS curriculum.

Happy New Year. A New Year definitely ahead.

ONLINE ELECTION

UP ACM Elections 2007 is currently on-going until 5PM tomorrow. And perhaps I'm first one who casted my vote through Halalan. It was really fast! Voting has never been this comfortable to me. Of course, for those who are skeptical, the manual election process is still handy.

I would just like to congratulate UnPlug for taking the elections a notch higher. This year's Engineering Student Council election is one the first (if not the first) full-length online election in the history of UP. And UP ACM as one of the first UP orgs which implemented (partially) an online election. :D

So which UP ACM candidates I am rooting for? I chose and voted for 7 out of the 9 candidates. I really think that all of them are deserving to be part of the next Executive Council (with all honesty).

Which brings me one day closer to my final day as the UP ACM Chair. :D

This is my mood for the day.

We tackled the difference of management/managers and leadership/leaders during the first part of my IE 3 then discussed once again during the HP Leadership Congress.

I know what's in this man, finally. I've been trying to figure out what is in him that sometimes makes me uneasy. His being close-minded is the reason why I frown. And when someone will comment something negative on his work or about his duties, he will either make you feel that he is in authority over things so better shut up or will say a big W -- whatever.

On the other hand, it is an open book to my closest circle of friends that I never put this man at the pedestal. He claimed before that he wanted to be a boss but there was never an instance that he assumed great leadership. There was even an instance that he became a sort of project manager but never pulled it off and acted as if he is just a plain member. And now, delivering a minor physical abuse to a woman is punishable. You are one of the most immature person I ever encountered.

Therefore I conclude that in order to be a leader, you must be open-minded enough to accept criticisms and to realize your faults as well. These guys will never be a leader -- perhaps for the sake of title -- but will never be one.

TASTE OF SPONGECOLA

I was waiting for one of my current favorite local bands last Feb. 13 that's why I took charge at the rear gate of the Loverage concert. And then Yael and the entire Spongecola entered and I was the first one who shouted -- "Oh my, here they are! Hi!"

They entered discreetly and walked swiflty towards the stage where Chad of PDA was currently performing that time. No one realized that they were actually there and I was their only 'bouncer'. So I had a chance to had a chance to really get personal -- even ask some questions. Wow. A fan in me was really raging!Aside from Spongecola, I waited for MYMP. I saw Chin and got a pic with him and also had a chance to welcome Juris at the rear gate. I thought she was Yeng but realized that Morning Glory doesn't have her anymore. So I shouted, "Hi Juris!"

By the way, I only asked one person to sign my marshal ID -- Yael.

I am messing with my planner because of this date. I am supposedly to attend the SMART IT Summit at Mall of Asia but had a change of plans because that there will be a party for all Microsoft Imagine Cup 2007 participants. But I learned today that I'll be representing UP to the Clash of the Brains, an event organized by the La Salle Computer Society, together with Ma'am Joyce, Mike, DC and Wigi. The pressure is on since we have to defend our crown.

I'm trying to write what happened last Thursday - Saturday so I need my memory cells to work. :D

I went to this telecom company to see for myself their job offer to me and I was not disappointed. I learned that the manager was very aggressive in getting me. Anyway, I do have 'til April to think about it. I was looking for Jesse and Renz at 33F but I can't find them (they were actually taking an exam) so I flew to Ortigas for my 1st interview for this multi-national company.

I was really frustrated before since this company didn't invite me for a screening when almost all of my CS batchmates were there. All of them had their interviews at Makati but hey, am I lost? Why Ortigas? My sched was 4pm but I patiently waited for about 15 more minutes. I observed the people there and the environment. One thing is for sure -- it's freaking cold out there! Perhaps, folks there can survive a day in Antarctica. Haha. :D

To my surprise, I was grilled. 'Twas a panel interview! I have to admit, I was just expecting a one-on-one interview but no! The last time I had a panel interview was way back before, my last interview for another multi-national company. And after the grilling, I wasn't satisfied that I was able to sell myself. Not much.

Then there was the Cursor Applicants' Talent Show. Then the HP Leadership Congress.

Just to introduce my next blog entry -- remember the panel interview? One of the members of the panel was there at the seminar. (So you already know what company I was talking about, huh?!) This guy is pursuing his law studies here at UP that's why he was really meticulous in all my arguments during my interview. With that, I can say that we will have a great lawyer in the making.

I still have a lot of stories to tell (Thursday - present). I'm not good in doing homeworks. Hehe. Anyway, I came from a meeting with my fellow Microsoft Student Partner from UP to discuss how the launch tomorrow will go. Both being a coffee addict, she had her Chai Latte and had my usual Mocha Javakula at Seattle's Best - Katips. We were there for more than 3 hours. And finally ate our dinner at the nearby Kenny Roger's.

Before I plug our event, let me just reminisce a CS 145 term called Broadcasting - Sending a message simultaneously to all systems of a network, without requiring an acknowledgement, for an instance someone broadcasts his/her new phone/mp3 player and the like.

Again, Launch and Preview of Microsoft Vista and Office 2007 tomorrow! Registration starts at 12:30PM and the event proper starts at 1PM. This will be at the UP Engineering Theater! Bring your friends!

Clue: It's about a movie called The Fountain, which I thought as a close cousin of The Notebook.

Just to continue my story from the previous post, I arrived at my CS 173 class' rendezvous at around 8:30AM and was not surprised to find only a handful of people there. It's because of the fair night. Boarding a shuttle bus/coaster, we reached the Robinson's Pioneer Mall, the biggest parking lot in the country (the mall inside is a big parking space due to lack of visitors. haha). After some pizza overload, (and some stomach rumble after that cheese + garlic pizza), we were back at the Cursor tambayan for our date.

My Heart's day finished at around 2AM (perhaps it will be at around 1AM if only we have waited for a Don Mariano Bus. haha). See, I'm not getting much sleep.

RED CARPET

Oh, it's been a very busy week and I almost forgot that I do have a blog. Haha. I'll just try to catch up. First story is about the awarding stuff last Tuesday. I was joined by Ma'am Susan and Sir Tim to represent UP for the Ayala Foundation awarding. I received a 5-digit cash! But due to the fact that I was so busy, I forgot to 'encash' the check. Hehe. There was a student representative each from Mapua, UST and more who was also awarded. I came back to UP for the EOEA.

Then the most-awaited event is LOVERAGE! I got backstage passes and I had a chance to mingle with a lot of celebrities! I'm a big fan of Spongecola and MYMP -- and thanks for my marshal job because I had a chance to have a close encounter with them. I also had a chance to be part of the human barricade for Bamboo (and Phoem Barranda, haha). I had a chance to say 'Hi' to Sandwich, Stonefree, Chad of PDA (which I think had a disastrous stint there), Kala and more.

I went to my room at 3:30AM because we do have a field trip for Accenture at 8AM.

So Love is FIN the air concluded. I didn't win a LoveRage ticket because Toni stole the Bingo moment.

From the building's rooftop, industrial lights from Ayala, Ortigas and other parts of the metro is clearly visible beneath the polluted night air. Which made me think, would I stay there after 10 years?

That was anti-climatic. But for sure, I don't have definite plans for the future yet. CEO is an ambitious dream.

After the Cursor Genmeet, we challenged ourselves to have a follow-up with our previous Glorietta getaway last week. We told ourselves that "Friday night is a gimmick night." After some debates, we saw ourselves riding a Pantranco jeep -- with myself of course, Jesse, Jerry, KMart, Sir Pio, Kai, Mari, Big John and Renz. We saw Paolo Sy at Quezon Ave MRT Station and later joined our company. We finally decided to go to Shangri-La's food court version.

When we arrived, we faced another dilemma -- to find seats for 10 people. Until after some time, we ask permission to move big dining tables around. So the dinner and gossips were given a go signal. After 2.5 hours, we decided to just sleep over someone's house. But we looked for a coffee shop first and found ourselves in the middle of sea of coffee addicts like us at Seattle's Best - MegaStrip. Almost everyone craved for their brownie javakula. After some time, we were finally seated together - the nine of us since Paolo went home already. After 1.5 hours, we rented an FX to take us all to KMart's place.

Since she owns an internet shop, 6 of us are online while Mari and Kai are taking their much deserve sleep. But if there are some who carries burden, that would me, Jerry and Kmart for we are revising our presentation for the EOEA Night on Tuesday.

Later this Saturday, we will be having our Love is Fin the Air which also stages a bingo game and a dating game. And oh, Valentine's day is near. But I don't have any plans of going out with someone. I'll better treat myself for a job well done.

However, if someone asks me out, that's another story.

As of the press time, I'm very sleepy but since we are many, there is no space for Jerry and I to sleep. Still clueless how everything will go. Yes, I'm sleepy.

GENIE IN A BOTTLE

It seems that our dream of putting up a 4' x 6' tarpaulin at Vinzons' Hill will become a reality! But let me tell you something, it is really painstaking - a burden we carry for 3 days. And a wish is granted.

I wrote a letter (which is a literary piece in its own sense, perhaps fictional) somewhere in the net. I'll repost it here. It seems that it's been a while since I posted a cheezy article. Whoa!

Together with IE Club, KEM, Erg and Circuit -- Cursor made it to the finals. It means that I can't make it to the Microsoft meeting because of this. (see early post).

And based on what I heard, there will be a shuttle from UP to Ayala so perhaps I can't make it to the job offer by this telco. Sad.

Anyways, congrats Cursor! Defend the crown!

For the past few days, I always woke up at around 7AM and perhaps walking around UP at 8AM. I really have a hard time waking up early that's why I prefer to study late then just sleep at around 3AM. But something strange is happening this week. Blame the weather, it's getting warmer. Done with the days that UP (or Metro Manila for that matter) is like Baguio. Freezing cold winds. I don't get the chills anymore when I am taking a bath. And perhaps because I'm doing a little stretching before the not-so-frigid-anymore shower.

As I am doing my usual 7 minute walk from my bedroom to Eng'g Bldg, I can't help but notice that the greeny grassland patches around were turning into chocolate-y brown. And yesterday, when Kaka and I were searching for the approval of our LOVE@UP tarp, I saw these 'bitak-bitak' around as well. El Nino at February? I don't know. I'm not really updated when it comes to weather news. Perhaps that's why my nerves are not frazzling anymore at dusk.

Another great news. I'll be receiving an award or something from Ayala Foundation and other affiliated groups on Feb. 13, 2PM at BPI Building in Ayala. I'll be with either Sir Cedric (CS dept chair) or Ma'am Susan I think, since the dean of our college can't make it. Wow. And from what I heard, I was shortlisted among other UP students to receive whatever I am supposed to get -- making me the UP representative there. I really don't think that it is a big issue until 2 CS faculty congratulated me. I'll be more than gratified if I receive an Oscar's. Big Laugh.

They might say that 13 is unlucky, but I call it otherwise. I do have a Microsoft meeting on Feb 13 at SQL Room in 6750 from 4:30 - 7:30PM. I just don't know if there will be a conflict with the Engineering Organization Excellence Awards Night since we don't know the finalists yet. Though I really do hope that a conflict will arise! Big Laugh. ...For I'll be part of the Cursor's org reps during the grilling panel interview if ever (with Jerry and KMart). Then after, Loverage at Sunken Garden!

The results of our quiz and midterm exams were finally delivered. I must say, carelessness is my biggest headache of the week.

OffT: Jerry, Renz and I ate together last night at Ihaw-1 Grill and promised that it will be the last time we will eat together (since the demand to be thrifty is high). We laid out plans for our apartment/house that we will board on June (?) when we are already working. We further agreed to start work on May. And to have 'the girls' to be our neighbors. Hehe.

COMPANY INTERVIEW

I should've said that I finished another company interview but no. I experienced the best and worst so far in my career. Two interviews in a day for the biggest telecommunications company in the country with 58% market share (I should know that!) -- not bad. It was indeed a rollercoaster ride.

It was the first time that I really stared blankly to a panel of interviewers since I was in a technical interview. All the CS 12 and 140 concepts -- from OOP to threads. And needless to say, I got a flat one in these subjects -- but to no avail. Gosh! But nevertheless, I still managed to move to the next level of application.

I met the manager of the CPG and he is really a father figure! My favorite interviewer so far! (tied with my first interviewer from the Pringles country) He even toured me around the 32nd floor where big servers are located. Really cold out there. He kept on saying, "Wala sila n'yan!" Somehow implies that he is really considering me to be part of his group.

When I arrived at Glorietta (once again), I texted him to thank him for his time. I learned that he came back from his meeting just to see me. What really happened was, after my tech interview, I was heading 6750 to meet some people from Microsoft. I was at the chapel in Greenbelt when I received a call from (him) the manager if it is ok for me to come back. I said, ok. I bought a mocha frappe first. Before we bid goodbye, he told me that he will tell the HR to 'fast-track' my application. Wow.

Definitely, this telco is considered as an option for my career track.

My cp's battery last night was really in coma. I learned this morning that the HR from that telco called me (that's why my phone was clinically dead last night). I texted her and asked her if there is a problem (why she actually called). Then the big news, she told me that they are actually considering me for the position and they are ready to give a job offer sooner (the sooner I'm available). Wow. I made it.

I recalled. I asked the manager, why should I choose his company. "It's hardcore programming here. You can actually see your application being used by end-customers. That's fulfilling." Definitely, a plus-plus-point there. :D

We had our own version of bit-byte-getaway yesterday at G4 with Jesse, Renz, Jerry, Kai and KMart. We failed to come up with a name for our getaway unlike the bit-byte-****** getaway. Haha. My bad.

We feasted over different controversies , I mean, our Bacon Mushroom Melt and fabulous fries. I even saw Mark Pingris and Danica Sotto. And oh, am I a fan? :D Sadly, we forgot to take some pics of us.

We moved to Greenbelt after. Then we make-hatid of Kai and KMart on their respective terminals. The rest walked towards MRT and rode the elevator but jumped back again since Jerry's urinary duct was about to explode. We had a round trip going Taft then Jesse and I went to my dorm first then make-hatid again to her boarding house.

Then I fell asleep. I should've woke up by 12AM to greet my brother a "Happy Birthday" but when I opened my eyes, it was 6AM already.

After ng aming makabuluhang dinner kagabi sa House of Sisig at Philcoa, muli kaming nagkasama nila Renz, Sir Pio, Jerry at Bullet with new additions upang maglunch at magpakagahaman sa pizza. Thanks to Greenwich Pizza All You Want promo.

Buti na lang at extended siya hanggang ngayong araw. P128 pesos/head para unlimited pizza at soda ka na at based sa computation, you must be able to eat at least 6 para sulit. I ate 8, 7 pepperoni at 1 hawaiian na pinag-aawayan pa namin, so nasulit ko naman kahit papaano + 5 Sarsi refill.

Mukhang word for the decade na ang prejudice! Hinanap ko pa sa wikipedia ang definition pero hindi ko na ippost dito for some reasons. Hehe. Lumaki ang tiyan ko. Dumaretso agad ako ng dorm dahil nagrrumble na ang pineapple, ham at pepperoni sa tiyan ko.

Ernest greedily swallowed 20 pizza slices! (that is about 5 pesos per slice na lang) followed by Chris with 16. Lahat naman kaming 11 na andun ay more than 6 slices ang nalamon so solved na.

I left some comments sa http://enggawards.multiply.com because I was killing time. After some clicking and being redirected to a handful of sites, nalaman ko bigla ang name ng crush ko sa Eng'g! So much with the details pero sana maka-DM ako sooner. ('da moves) :P

Napag-isip ako. Bumilis ang tibok ng aking puso. Ngayong may sort-of sure na trabaho na ako, napag-isip kong iiwan ko na ang Eng'g. At ano pa ba ang sobrang mami-miss ko sa Eng'g kundi ang Eng'g Week. Ano nga ba ang biglang tumatakbo sa isip ko at naalala kapag nasabi ang mga salitang iyon. Hmm. I told myself not to write anything about this. Pero sige na nga. :P

Kumpara sa Eng'g Week 2005, eto ang mga napansin kong pagbabago sa nakaraang Eng'g Week 2006:

1. Dati, todo sugod ako para ipagtanggol ang Cursor dahil Eng'g Week head ako. Sa nakaraang Eng'g Week, nireklamo ako ng Cursor dahil nag-side ang UP ACM sa CIEM sa The Boat is Sinkengg, which happens to be the org na hine-head ko. Hirap pala kapag ako ang ki-nomplain, at Cursor pa! :D

2. Dati, mas feel ko ang bashing kapag Ms. Eng'g. Sa nakaraang Eng'g Week, ang hirap manood. Pero may lutuan pa rin as usual. Haha. Bitter. :P

3. Dati, ramdam ko ang tensyon among IEC, KEM and Cursor. Kasi ba naman, honestly, close fight talaga. As in until Ms. Eng'g nun, di pa alam kung sino ang EWOC. Sa nakaraang Eng'g Week, kalagitnaan pa lang, alam ko nang IEC ang EWOC.

4. Dati, ang mga ka-close kong orgs ay Alchemes at MSS. Sa nakaraang Eng'g Week, hmm. KEM? at some CIEM? May tensyon pa nga between MSS and Cursor dahil sa kaka-reklamo sa Dresseng'g, na na-default din ang Cursor in the end. Grabe. :D

5. Dati, naging kilala ako ng mga org heads. Sa nakaraang Eng'g Week, may mga ka-apir-an pang mga members. Haha. At least, yung purpose na camaraderie ay na-fulfill.

6. Dati, suki ako sa ESC office kaka-reklamo. Sa nakaraang Eng'g Week, walang nagbago. Haha. Labs ko si Stella at Jmer eh!

May nagtanong sa akin kung ano ang comment ko sa isang tao na gustong maging boss at ipursue ang managerial career track pero wala namang stand-out leadership skills as exemplified through extra-curricular activities? Sabi ko, sinagot na nya ang tanong ko nya. I hate people na nagmmember lang sa org for resume purposes at kapag interview, kunwari may ginagawa sa org. Hay naku, sana iniinterview din nila ang officers ng mga org para malaman nila na wala naman talaga. Mas may respeto at paghanga ako sa mga taong nag-excel both sa academics at extra-curricular activities. Why? Kasi ano ba ang napatunayan mo kung magaling ka sa acads lang?

THE MOCHA FROCCINO NIGHT

Together with Kaka, we went at Bo's Coffee at Katipunan to discuss our event for Microsoft. Perhaps, you've heard of the hard launch of Microsoft Vista and Office 2007 at SM Mall of Asia on Feb. 3. But we will also be having a campus launch of the same technologies at UP Diliman on Feb. 19, 1PM at Engineering Theatre.

Kaka treated me a Mocha Froccino which I think is more chocolate-y than coffee-y (the terms.. erm). After all, that should be a coffee shop! :P But nice taste, I must say! Kaka had her hot Caramel Latte. We also noticed that this 3-floor-shop is conducive for reviewing since it hardly reaches 50db mark - almost like a chapel. Haha.

And I must commend, Kaka prepared a great proposal! I hope the gray areas will be diminished as soon as possible. See you guys on Feb 19!

Through Toby, (a schoolmate back in highschool, co-officer ko sa Math Club) the organization I'm heading - UP ACM was invited by LSCS in their Tech Convention named Fusion.

Dumating ang first batch ng mga members with me at 8AM sa South gate ng La Salle. Andun na si Toby at after we get-in, nagkaroon kami ng Campus Tour to kill time kasi hindi pa raw nakaka-set-up. No comment na lang sa pinagmamayabang nilang facilities. Hehe.

About the topics, nakaka-challenge kumuha ng PhilNITS certification, ilan lang kasi ang pumapasa per country. Sa Myanmar nga... *zippit*. Nakatulog ako nung diniscuss yung Wireless Networks kasi parang CS 145 lang 'yung content. At hindi rin naman ako interested sa game development, kaya hinintay ko lang ang lunch break.

Dun kami naglunch sa parang CASAA nila. At dinumog namin ang Mojo Potatoes for P25! Ang dami kaya, good for sharing, at swak ang Honey Mustard Sauce. Sabi ko nga, gusto kong magfranchise sa UP nun! Di ko lang in-expect na may mura sa La Salle. Hehe. At nag-ice cream pa kami as recommended by Sab. :P

In fairness, the afternoon talks were way better for me kasi interested ako at hindi nakaka-antok ang mga speakers. Parang stand-up comedy talaga yung Open Source talk ng Exist! Nakakatawa talaga! Then Sharon from Apple about Podcasting na nakaka-wow ang mga pinag-gagagawa ng anak niyang 8 years old lang! Finally, the prof from College of Computer Studies nila talked about the Natural Language Processing. Cool theses/projects indeed. Naalala ko tuloy yung Filipino Programming Language na ginawa namin nung CS 150. :D

After ng talk, picture taking siyempre ang org for documentation purposes. Then Big John, Renz and I went to Mall Of Asia. Di pa kasi nakakapunta dun sa Big John. At nagkape kami sa Bo's. Nakabalik ako sa UP ng 9AM, then umuwi ng Bulacan. Standing ang bus na nasakyan ko dahil last trip. Haay, bugbog ang katawan ko.
